About Aging

The Division of Aging establishes and monitors programs that serve the needs of Indiana seniors. The Division of Aging’s overarching vision is to re-define long-term care for consumers and providers. Aging focuses on comprehensive, coordinated community-based systems that provide advocacy and protective services; planning, coordination and brokering services; interagency linkage and information sharing; and monitoring and evaluation services. The Division of Aging focuses on home- and community-based services for the elderly and disabled and is also responsible for nursing home reimbursement policy and oversees the Residential Care Assistance Program.

Establishment

The Division of Aging was created as Indiana’s State Unit on Aging in accordance with the Older Americans Act (OAA) and falls directly under the Family and Social Services Administration. By Indiana statute, the division is granted the legal authority to establish and monitor programs that serve the needs of Indiana seniors.

In addition, FSSA's Division of Aging proactively carries out a wide range of functions designed to enhance comprehensive and coordinated community-based systems serving areas throughout Indiana through the following methods:

  • Interagency linkages
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Planning
  • Protective services

Vision Statement

The vision of the Division of Aging is to redefine the Long-Term Care Marketplace for consumers and providers.

Programs

The FSSA's Division of Aging administers federal, state, and local grants as well as other sources of funding to coincide with the OAA and Administration on Aging's federal and local agenda. The division facilitates the following programs in order to fulfill our mission:
