Decreasing the spread of influenza (flu) among children and their caretakers in early childhood programs serves as an effective measure in lowering overall infection rates in communities as a whole.

"Early childhood programs" refer to center-based and home-based child care, Head Start, and other programs providing care for children in group settings.
