Health Care Providers

Health care providers are critical to the prevention and spread of influenza. Assurances that medical offices and other outpatient facilities can manage increased demands for services in the midst of an influenza outbreak.

The Health Care Providers section has additional resources and up-to-date information on the planning and prevention of influenza pandemics and seasonal flu.

Laboratories

The ISDH laboratory actively participates in WHO collaborating laboratories influenza virus surveillance program.

Influenza samples are grown in the virology laboratory and submitted to the CDC to determine what strains of influenza are circulating in Indiana.

The Laboratories Section describes the ISDH laboratory's role during influenza outbreaks.

Businesses

Preventing the spread of influenza at the workplace is an important step to keeping business running smoothly. Urge employees to frequently wash their hands, cough or sneeze into their sleeve if a tissue isn't available, and use alcohol-based sanitizers when a wash basin is unavailable.

Schools

During the flu season, school administrators should take care to promote good hygiene practices. Encourage students and staff to stay home from school if they begin to develop flu-like symptoms.
