New Requirement to Receive Unemployment Insurance Benefits Beginning October 2013
Due to a recent change in Indiana law, Hoosiers receiving unemployment insurance benefits must visit their local WorkOne for a review of their work search records and an orientation to WorkOne services after their 4th week of benefits. You are also required by law to keep records of your 3 weekly work searches and be able to show a record of work searches when requested. If a record of work searches cannot be readily verified at the in-person visit, weekly benefits could be withheld. This in-person visit is part of a new law passed aimed at getting unemployed Hoosiers back to work as quickly as possible. Hoosiers who are required to visit a WorkOne will begin receiving notices in October. Anyone who fails to comply risks losing their unemployment insurance benefits. Click here for more information.

New Requirements to Receive Benefits
Unemployed Hoosiers who are finishing their first 26 weeks of regular state unemployment insurance and moving to federally funded extended benefits are now required to go to WorkOne for an in-person review of their work search records. The new in-person review is part of the federal law Congress passed in February reauthorizing the federally funded extended benefits through the end of the year. Reviews will also be required for those transitioning from the first round of federal benefits to the second if they have not previously participated. Hoosiers who are required to visit a WorkOne will begin receiving notices in April. Anyone who fails to comply risks losing their unemployment insurance benefits.
