Indianapolis – Beginning July 1, the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) assumes responsibility for overseeing the regulation of charity gaming in Indiana. Those activities were previously the responsibility of the Indiana Department of Revenue, but 2006 legislation moved the program to the IGC.
In 2005, there were 2,625 charity gaming licenses issued to qualified organizations. State law defines a qualified organization as a bona fide religious, educational, senior citizens, veterans, or civic group operating as a non-profit in Indiana continuously for at least five years. Bona fide political organizations may also qualify.
The IGC is holding the series of meetings to get feedback and suggestions about how the charity gaming program operates. Groups that have gaming licensees and other interested parties are encouraged to attend. All forums will be from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
