TheSurface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) created the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) in the Department of the Interior. SMCRA provides authority to OSM to oversee the implementation of, and provide Federal funding for, State regulatory and abandoned mine land reclamation programs approved by OSM as meeting the standards specified in SMCRA. These reports contain summary information regarding the Indiana program and its effectiveness in meeting the applicable purposes of SMCRA.
