Former railroad lines make excellent greenway trails. These long flat corridors connect communities and towns throughout the nation.  Most of the rail trails in the state are paved, making them useable by the majority of Hoosiers. The trails are great for commuting, exercising, or just going for a short stroll.

Indiana has increased the miles of rail trail significantly in the past few years. Hundreds of miles have been added and many more are in development.

For a current listing of Rail Trails in Indiana, please see our trail inventory online.  Check the Rail Trail box and you will see them displayed throughout the state.
