The DHPA's Archaeology Section administers programs for protecting and preserving Indiana's prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and the valuable information that they contain. The DHPA is the central repository of archaeological records and reports for the state and also houses the state's official computerized database of archaeological site information. The public is an integral partner in the identification and preservation of archaeological sites and information.
Do you have information on Indiana archaeological sites that you would like to share? Do you have artifacts which you would like to know more about? Do you own property that had a site located there? Our staff is available to answer questions and to help record site location information. The more we know about where sites are located, the easier it is to help afford them protection.
Information on artifact identification and responsible collecting and much more can be found at through the following resources.
