Last year, Hoosiers enjoyed four days of free fishing and family-friendly fishing events. This year, we are bringing them back. During April 19, May 17, and June 7-8, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state's public waters. Typically, only youth (age 17 and younger) and a few other special anglers are exempt the license requirement.

To help celebrate Free Fishing Days, locations are planning fishing derbies, knot tying and casting clinics, and cleaning and cooking classes. In 2013, nearly 2,000 people participated in Free Fishing Day events. Some events require pre-registration, so call your favorite property for details. Individuals with special needs should contact the property at least 72 hours before the event, or call the DNR Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator at 317-232-4145.
