A young Northern flicker peeks from a hole in a tree near Lora's house. She and her husband, Scott, do more than watch birds. They converted their 20-acre Starke County farmstead into wildlife habitat, leaving several dead elm trees for nesting area for woodpeckers and many other bird species.
The late-August sun sets behind the Kelley Avenue Bridge over the Wabash River in Peru. Jay took the photo from the Nickel Plate Trail, just outside of town, with his Samsung Galaxy S7. A subscriber for 15 years, he says the trail is a great place to enjoy the outdoors.
