Indiana State Board of Animal Health Summary of Rule Governing Identification of Livestock Premises

- Directs the state veterinarian to establish a state premise identification system that is compatible with the USDA system.
- Currently A person may voluntarily obtain a premise identification number for premises associated with
- Livestock.
- Poultry.
- Aquatic animals that are the subject of aquaculture.
- Beginning September 1 , 2006, premise registration will be required for each person that buys, sells, or exhibits livestock. These individual must obtain a premise identification number for each of their Indiana premises. The following species are exempt from this requirement (but may still register voluntarily):
- Equine (horses, asses, and donkeys).
- Camelidae (camels, llamas, and alpacas).
- Ostriches, rhea, and emus.
- Beginning September 1, 2006, a premises identification number will be required for the following BOAH program participants:
- Cervid premises registered under the current BOAH program.
- Licensed livestock dealers with premises.
- Disposal plants (renderers).
- Dairy farms and dairy plants.
- Slaughtering plants.
- CEM quarantine facilities.
- Premises associated with certain BOAH program activities (quarantine, FAD investigation, etc...).
- Beginning September 1, 2006, exhibitions of livestock must be registered with the BOAH and will receive a premise identification number. Exhibitions of the following animals are exempt:
- Equine (horses, asses, and donkeys).
- Camelidae (camels, llamas, and alpacas).
- Ostriches, rhea, and emus.
Registration includes:
- Dates and location of the exhibition.
- Species of animals expected to be at the event.
- Name, address, and phone number of person that will be keeping records.
The exhibition must keep records of the following:
- The name and address of each exhibitor.
- The species of animals exhibited.
- If an animal is sold through the exhibition, the name and address of the buyer.
