A Year of Manufacture license plate may be used on a vehicle that is at least 25 years old if it is an Indiana license plate that was issued in the model year of the vehicle.

A Historic license plate is registered to the vehicle and a Certificate of Registration is mailed with the Historic plate and vehicle information. The license branch will also issue a Year of Manufacture Affidavit to allow the license plate to be used in lieu of the Historic plate.

The Historic license plate, Certificate of Registration, and Year of Manufacture Affidavit are required to be carried in the vehicle at all times that the Year of Manufacture license plate is displayed on the vehicle, and be presented at the request of law enforcement. This includes any renewal year stickers. The Historic license plate must be renewed annually.

  • May only contain minor rust on the face of the plate.
  • May not be bent.
  • May not have any unplanned holes.
  • Must match the picture of the plate issued for the year of manufacture according to BMV records. Click here to view Indiana’s Antique License Plates
