Auditor's > Auditor's Info > Biography Biography for Auditor of State Dwayne Sawyer

Dwayne Sawyer brings to the office of Indiana's State Auditor extensive experience developing financial and accounting software systems and handling multi-million dollar local government budgets.

This experience will help drive technological efficiencies that save taxpayer dollars, bring greater visibility, awareness and transparency regarding state finances, and, above all, continue the tradition of excellence of the Auditor's Office.

He has been a sought after expert in the fields of financial systems, information technology and project management having worked in key positions at companies such as Roche Diagnostics, Dow AgroSciences and Eli Lilly and Company.

As President of the Brownsburg Town Council since 2012, and member of the Council since 2009, Dwayne helped lead his community through a period of unprecedented growth while managing a budget in excess of $40 million and passing a 12 percent tax cut, the largest in the history of Brownsburg, using the same principles of fiscal responsibility that he brings to his new role.

A product of the grassroots, Dwayne Sawyer has been a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 2005 and serves as Secretary of the 4th District Republican Committee.  Sawyer is a member of the Executive Committee of the Hendricks County Republican Party and serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Leadership Forum and is a 2009 graduate of the program.

He is also active in his community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Hendricks County Regional Health YMCA and served as an appointee of Governor Mike Pence on the Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males.

With his father serving in the U.S. Air Force, Sawyer spent his childhood in four states and Japan before finally settling in Indiana in 1984 and graduating from Purdue University in 1989.  With his wife Melissa, he has three children whom they home school.  The Sawyer family are members of College Park Christian Church.
