Installation of Blinker Stop Signs Begin Next Week

Four intersections will receive these stop signs for evaluation

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the installation of the Blinker Stop Sign will begin next week at four intersections in West Central Indiana to determine the effectiveness of these signs.  The Blinker Stop Sign features an array of bright LED’s that flash in unison, per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), commanding the attention of drivers both night and day.  The stop signs are solar powered.

These stop signs will be evaluated over a period of one year.  INDOT plans to install the Blinker Stop Signs at the following four intersections:

·        Boone County at the intersection of State Road 75 and State Road 32 in Dover, both directions on S.R. 75

·        Montgomery County at the intersection of State Road 234 westbound at US 231

·        Tippecanoe County at the intersection of State Road 28 eastbound at State Road 25

·        Tippecanoe County at the intersection of Stockwell Road (C.R. 700 East) southbound at State Road 28

INDOT is installing this type of sign to be evaluated to see if it can become an alternative to a ground mounted stop sign with a red flashing beacon.

INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.  For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot or www.trafficwise.IN.gov .
