Arts Commission approves grant awards to community-based cultural providers

(Indianapolis, Indiana)The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that more than 260 community-based arts providers throughout the state will receive grants for Fiscal Year 2015.

At its June 20th Quarterly Business Meeting in Indianapolis, the Commission reviewed and accepted funding recommendations for Arts Operating Support (AOS-I; AOS-II; AOS-III (formerly Major Arts Organizations); Art Project Support (APS); Regional Arts Partner Block Grants to sub-grantees; and Regional Arts Partner Operating Support grants.

The Commission approved grant allocations totaling nearly $2.7 million in state and federal funds for grants and programs provided by arts organizations and cultural providers throughout the state.

“These arts organizations and cultural program providers are significant contributors to the quality of life in our state and, most importantly, their own communities,” said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. “For smaller and mid-size towns, these organizations serve as a cultural beacon. They have an added impact on the economic environment in their region.”

The majority of grants approved by the Commission, totaling more than $1.8 million, will be distributed through the IAC’s 11 regions to small and mid-sized organizations. Among these 260 grants are: La Porte County Symphony Orchestra($9,850), Elkhart Civic Theatre ($8,865), The Foundation for Arts and Music in Elementary Education ($6,895), Friends of the Frankfort Public Library ($6,895), Arts Association of Henry County ($5,963), Putnam County Playhouse ($6,895), Harrison Center for the Arts ($12,805), Shawnee Theatre of Greene County ($5,910), Dearborn Highlands Arts Council ($6,895), Evansville African American Museum ($7,880), and Jeffersonville High School Instrumental Band Boosters ($4,925).

Organizations such as Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, Inc. ($36,445), Indiana Repertory Theatre ($38,415), and The Honeywell Foundation, Inc., Wabash, ($36,445) were among 12 organizations funded through the AOS-III category. Those organizations will receive a total of $451,130. AOS-II organizations funded directly by the Arts Commission include the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. All three organizations will each receive $18,715.

Traditional Arts Indiana also received a grant of $39,775 from the IAC for its continued partnership work cataloging and documenting traditional art and artisans in Indiana.
