[ICPR] The Indiana Digital Archives has Moved!
Start Date: 7/1/2014 All Day
End Date: 7/1/2014
Entry Description

Welcome to the new home of the Indiana Digital Archives! The Indiana State Archives is pleased to add new collections and modify some existing content.  There are two new searchable record series, Photographs and Courts.

Photographs.  This addition features searchable indexes to the Indiana State Fair Collection and the Indiana Images Collection—the general photograph database of the Indiana State Archives. The latter database includes the mug shots of the Indiana State Prison, Civil War photographs, the Committee on Mental Defectives Photograph Collections, just to name a few.

Courts.  The State Archives welcomes the Indiana Supreme Court database from its old home on the Courts website, and the updated Posey County Courts database, as well as the Vigo County Coroner’s Inquests. These new databases join with the Marion County Wills and Marion County Courts that were formally found under the Miscellaneous Historical Records Series.

Just in time for Indiana’s Bicentennial our Military database is expanding to include Veteran’s Grave Registrations for several Indiana Counties.  Marion County will be updated from time to time, but already complete are, Adams, Blackford, Brown, Cass, Clark, Madison, Posey, Tipton, Vanderburgh, and Washington. Our dedicated volunteers are continuing to add more records daily.  Indiana Militia Records from 1877-1897 are also newly indexed and available.

Look for other new databases under Institutions, including the Indiana Reformatory and the Indiana State Farm.  Central Normal College, later known as Canterbury College, has also been added and the Closed Indiana Nursing Schools title moves to this record series.  The male Admission Books for Central State Hospital have all been added and the women’s books are nearly complete.  Watch for this collection, as well as the Index to State Hospital Inquests to grow.

Since there is nothing Miscellaneous about Historical Records you will now find those collections along with several new ones under Additional Historical Records.  New titles include Dissolved Indiana Corporations, Registered Pharmacists, Indianapolis Land Donation, Monroe County WPA Index, and an additional table for the Marion County Public Safety Employees for 1921-1955.

If you have visited the Indiana Digital Archives previously and used the Social Security Death Index, that feature is no longer presented.  These federal records are available for free at Genealogy Bank using

Updates and additional collections are being added regularly.  To receive the most current information,  sign-up for the News at the Indiana State Archives by clicking the following link:   If you would like to volunteer to assist the State Archives, email to volunteer today!
