Entry Description
Noblesville congratulates the Millers, 2014 baseball state champions

Victory Field in Indianapolis set the stage last Friday for an event that brought our community together. With a record number of fans, all sitting on the edge of their seats, it seemed like the entire community came out to support the Noblesville Millers during the baseball state championship game. Both teams played exceptionally well and the score was close for a majority of the game. The Millers, however, keeping the Terre Haute Patriots at bay, won their very first state baseball title in the school’s history and our community could not be more proud of every player on the team.

Coach Keever and his staff deserve special recognition for leading the team to victory and teaching the players about healthy competition and the importance of teamwork. This season, I kept hearing that every player on the Millers knew what his role and responsibilities were, making them a very special team. They all worked together well and felt like a close family; like brothers. If one player was struggling, another would step up, and it was that teamwork that led to Friday night’s victory.

This victory affirms the strength of Noblesville’s baseball program. Countless individuals have worked hard to create it and make it successful over the years. From the ones that worked over 50 years ago to build and maintain Forest Park’s baseball diamonds to those that maintain it and continue to volunteer today, there are so many members of our community that have contributed to the success of this program. Also deserving much recognition are all the businesses, volunteers and everyone that helped build the Field of Dreams, where so many kids now enjoy playing.

What I love most about sports is that it brings people together. Whether you helped maintain the field over the years or cheered on the team Friday night, it was great to see Noblesville come together and show its support for the Millers. Around the city, encouraging signs were posted everywhere and flags were displayed outside businesses, showing their pride for the team. It was also great to see former players return and cheer on the Millers as well.

The "Miller Black Out" was awesome and the fan support was impressive. After the game, the team and fans came back to "The Dunk" for a Millers victory celebration. Coach Keever as well as the seniors on the team shared some thoughts about their victory. They thanked their families and the community, and it was the perfect way to end the day.

I just could not let this week go by without saying congratulations and letting the players, Coach Keever as well as the staff know how proud I am of them. They represented Noblesville well and deserve the highest praise for their hard work this season.

To the seniors, I wish you well as you begin the next chapter of your life. No matter what path you choose to follow, you will always be a member of the 2014 baseball state championship team. I encourage you to take everything you learned playing sports and apply them to your life as you move forward. Things like working together for a common goal, community pride, caring for each other and most importantly, anything can be accomplished through hard work and determination.

To Coach Keever, staff and the entire team, thanks for a great year and best of luck always. We are so proud of you!
