[DNR] Stargazing with telescopes at Mounds SP, July 5

Entry Description
Those wanting a high-powered peek at the moon, Saturn, stars and other deep-space objects can visit Mounds State Park on July 5.

Astronomy enthusiasts Steve and Debbie Russel will present an evening of stargazing along with the park naturalists. The Russels will set up their telescopes at 9 p.m. in the field by the swimming pool and will remain into the late evening. The naturalists will have astronomy crafts for kids from 9 p.m. until dark.

“Summer gives us rich views of the Milky Way,” Steve Russel said. “Saturn will be 867 million miles away but will look fabulous.”

The program is free, though standard park entrance fees of $5 per in-state vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle apply.
