[r22] Rep. McNamara’s bill to help address Meth problem signed by Governor Pence
Start Date: 6/18/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/18/2014
Entry Description
STATEHOUSE –State Representative Wendy McNamara’s (R-Mount Vernon) bill to give better direction to deal with properties that have been affected by methamphetamine was signed by Governor Pence.

House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1141 will allow Hoosiers to know whether or not a house has ever been used for the manufacture of meth. Even if a home’s history has been taken off the public list, the Indiana State Police will keep information on houses that have ever been the site where methamphetamine was dumped or manufactured.

“This law was a direct result of individuals from our community asking for help in dealing with the damaging effects of meth use and manufacturing,” said Rep. McNamara. “It is not acceptable for this to be happening in any community, especially in our backyards, where meth lab busts continue to be a problem.”

This law aims to make positive changes in the health and safety of Indiana communities while increasing cooperation and collaboration between state agencies. Encouraging renovations and decontamination of properties that have been affected by meth will increase property values and protect Hoosiers from dangerous chemicals.

“This law will positively affect Indiana neighborhoods and offer an effective solution to an ongoing problem,” said Rep. McNamara. “The transparency that this bill creates will allow for safer and stronger communities. Indiana is now one step closer to more collaborative neighborhoods and an overall cleaner state.”
