I-70 Repairs Continue in Wayne County

RICHMOND – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan restrictions through this weekend on two contracts for pavement repairs on Interstate 70 in Wayne County.

Milestone Contractors, the INDOT contractor for a $2.1 million project, plans to restrict the left lane of westbound I-70 from west of U.S. 27 to west of U.S. 35 (approximately mile markers 150 to 148) each night this week after 9 p.m. Milestone will saw cut areas of pavement to be removed and repaired this weekend and will end restrictions before 6 a.m.

On Friday night at 9 p.m., crews will again implement the same lane closure to begin removing areas of damaged pavement and pouring new concrete pavement. This traffic restriction will remain in place until all new concrete has adequate time to cure. All lanes are expected to reopen before 6 a.m. Monday.

On Thursday night at 8 p.m., Hunt Paving, the INDOT contractor for a $1.6 million project, plans to restrict the left lane of eastbound I-70 near State Road 227 (approximately mile markers 151 to 153). Hunt will also restrict the left lane of westbound I-70 near State Road 227 (approximately mile markers 154 to 153). These restrictions for saw cutting areas of damaged pavement are expected to end by 6 a.m. Friday.

Hunt plans to repeat these restrictions near State Road 227 on Friday night to remove damaged pavement and pour new concrete patches. The lane restrictions will remain in place until approximately 8 p.m. Sunday to allow new concrete adequate time to cure.

Work could be postponed in the event of inclement weather. All ramps are expected to remain open during the weeknight and weekend repairs. Additional overnight and weekend lane restrictions should be expected this summer as contractors make progress on I-70 repairs in the Centerville and Richmond areas.

Drivers are advised to practice safe habits in highway work zones, such as following work zone speed limits, maintaining safe distances from other vehicles, and avoiding all distractions. For information on INDOT work zones and highway restrictions, go to TrafficWise.in.gov or call toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623).
