[ISP] Two in Custody following Pursuit and Police Shooting
Start Date: 5/21/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 5/21/2014
Entry Description

Early this afternoon between noon and 12:30 multiple law enforcement agencies were conducting surveillance as part of an ongoing burglary investigation when police identified two suspects who they believe had broken into a home on Walters Road in northern Dearborn County near the Ripley County line. Surveillance units followed the suspect vehicle through Dearborn County where near Weisburg Road and Five Points they attempted to stop the vehicle. As the vehicle appeared to be stopping a trooper exited his vehicle and the suspect vehicle attempted to strike the trooper. The trooper fired several shots at the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled though Dearborn County north on Lawrenceville Road across S.R. 46 onto St. Peters Road into Franklin County. The suspect vehicle continued up St. Peters Road then onto Blue Creek Road where they eventually turned onto Sturwold Road where the two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Both suspects were apprehended a short time later.

No officers were injured in the incident and one suspect suffered a minor injury but refused medical treatment. It is not known at this time if the injury was the result of gunfire or if the injury occurred as the suspect fled through the woods. The names of the suspects and the trooper who fired the shots are not being released at this time. This is part of an ongoing investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies in multiple counties and is PRELIMINARY information. More details will be released as information becomes available.
