I-70 Repairs in Wayne and Henry Counties

East Central Indiana – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan lane restrictions on Interstate 70 through this weekend for pavement repairs in Wayne and Henry counties.

Wayne County

Beginning Thursday at 8 p.m., Hunt Paving, the INDOT contractor for a $1.6 million pavement repair project near Richmond, plans to restrict the right lane of eastbound I-70 between mile markers 151 and 153 near U.S. 27 and State Road 227. Hunt will saw cut areas of pavement to be repaired this weekend and end restrictions before 6 a.m. Friday.

Contractors will restrict the same area Friday night at 8 p.m. to begin removing damaged pavement. New concrete will be poured, and lane restrictions will remain in place until the pavement has adequate time to cure. At the same time, repairs will be made to asphalt pavement in this interstate section. All ramps are expected to remain open at this location, and the lane restriction is expected to end by 8 p.m. Sunday.

On Saturday at 6 a.m., crews plan to begin patching asphalt pavement in the right lane of westbound I-70 from the Ohio state line to mile marker 155. The westbound I-70 ramp to eastbound U.S. 40 (westbound Exit 156B) will require closure until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday. All other ramps are expected to remain open at the interchange.

Henry County

Beginning Friday at 8 p.m., E & B Paving will restrict the right lane of eastbound I-70 between mile markers 118 and 121 east of State Road 109 (Knightstown Exit 115). This lane restriction is expected to end by 2 p.m. Sunday. Overnight and weekend lane restrictions should be expected in this area as E & B Paving, the INDOT contractor for the $7.7 million project, is repairing and resurfacing a 7-mile section of I-70 between State Roads 109 and 3 (New Castle Exit 123).

Work Zone Safety

Drivers are advised to practice safe habits in highway work zones, such as following work zone speed limits, maintaining safe distances from other vehicles, and avoiding all distractions. The Indiana Work Zone Safety Law sets steep penalties for driving infractions within highway work zones. Citations for speeding in a work zone could result in a fine of up to $1,000. Motorists who drive recklessly or aggressively through a work zone face fines up to $5,000. Drivers who injure or kill a highway worker may end up paying a $10,000 fine and serving up to eight years behind bars. Fines generated from the work zone law are used to fund additional work zone patrols in an around work zones. For more information on work zone safety, go to workzonesafety.in.gov.
