End Date: 5/5/2014
Entry Description
Howard County – Friday morning, at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash at 3492 West Howard County Road 500 South, which killed Travis Maier, 22, Frankfort, IN.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Josh Tarrh revealed that a 1996 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on County Road 500 South, near 3492 West. For an undetermined reason, the Honda traveled off the south side of the road and struck a utility pole. The Honda was occupied by Travis Maier, 22, Blayne Forrester, 22, both from Frankfort, IN, and Casie Johnson, 26, Burlington, IN.

Maier, who was ejected from the Honda, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Forrester and Johnson were both treated at Howard Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Early stages of the investigation revealed that on May 2, Maier, Forrester, and Johnson purportedly left the Social Experiment bar between 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. The Social Experiment is located at 3040 South Lafountain Street, Kokomo, IN. It is believed the trio left the bar in a white 1996 Honda Accord. The Honda Accord had a spare (donut) tire on the rear passenger side.

Anyone in the area of the Social Experiment on May 2, who saw a white 1996 Honda Accord, with a spare (donut) tire, between 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., is asked to contact Trooper Josh Tarrh or Detective Mike Tarrh by calling the Indiana State Police Peru Post at 1-800-382-0689 or 765-473-6666.

(This crash was originally reported as occurring on Tipton County Road 700 North west of County Road 900 West. The crash occurred on the Tipton/Howard County line. Further investigation revealed it is more appropriate to handle the crash as occurring in Howard County)
