End Date: 3/25/2014
Entry Description
Jasper County-A three vehicle crash that occurred early this morning resulted in the death of an Ohio man.

Preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Aaron Trammel revealed that at approximately 6:20 a.m., this Tuesday, March 25, 2014, morning a 2007 Volvo semi pulling a rail container, owned by Comtrak Logistics out of Saint Louis, Missouri, driven by Mouhamadou Soumare, 51 of Indianapolis, Indiana, was stopped in the right lane of I-65 north bound at the 208.5 mile marker (this is 5 ½ miles south of the Rensselaer exit) because of a crash that had occurred up ahead when it was hit in the rear.

A 2003 Kenworth semi pulling an empty trailer, owned by Gary’s Trucking out of Medon, Tennessee, driven by James Kirkland, 58 of Toone, Tennessee, was also stopped in the right lane behind Soumare’s semi when it was hit in the rear and pushed into the rail container.

A 2008 Dodge dually pick-up pulling a 50 foot 2010 Kaufman loaded with three vehicles, owned by Cinci Motor LLC out of Maineville, Ohio, driven by Zaza Eristavi, 41 of Fairfield, Ohio, was north bound in the right lane when he failed to slow down and hit the back of Kirkland’s trailer; causing the straps that were securing the cars to the trailer to break free. All three vehicles were catapulted off the trailer with one landing onto the trailer and cab of Kirkland’s semi. A second vehicle landed on its roof to the right of Kirkland’s semi in the grass and the third vehicle landed in the left lane beside Kirkland’s semi.

Eristavi’s trailer was pushed forward into the driver’s compartment of the Dodge pick-up. Eristavi’s was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner of massive blunt force trauma. His family HAS been notified.

Soumare and Kirkland were not injured. Soumare’s rail container was loaded with air compressors and there was no load loss

All lanes north bound are closed for reconstruction of the crash, removal of the deceased, and the vehicles all traffic is being diverted off at State Road 24 Remington/Wolcott exit (201 mile marker).
