[IDEM] IDEM welcomes Robert Bosch LLC Albion into Environmental Stewardship Program
Start Date: 3/21/2014 All Day
End Date: 3/21/2014
Entry Description

Who: The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and Robert Bosch LLC Albion

What: Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) induction ceremony

When: 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Where: Robert Bosch facility, 1613 Progress Drive, Albion, Indiana

Having demonstrated long-term compliance above and beyond Indiana’s environmental laws, Robert Bosch LLC’s Albion facility will be officially welcomed into the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's (IDEM's) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly will present an award and flag to Michael Sagan, plant manager, on behalf of all Bosch partners during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the company’s location on 1613 Progress Drive, Albion Indiana.

To become an ESP member, businesses must maintain an exemplary compliance record, certify that they have adopted and implemented an approved Environmental Management System (EMS), and commit to specific measures for continued improvement in their environmental performance.

Bosch’s Albion plant not only meets, but, in many cases, exceeds IDEM’s standards and is being recognized for its commitment to continuous environmental improvement.

As part of its commitment to the environment, Bosch Albion will be working on a lighting improvement project to reduce overall electrical usage, as well as a 5-percent reduction in both water usage and waste going to landfill. They will do this through a new training program and improvements to equipment. Bosch has already implemented a successful program that reduced its forklift usage, leading to lower fuel consumption for the facility, along with reduced emissions.

By continually improving environmental performance, ESP members qualify for expedited permit review, reduced reporting frequencies, and coordination of compliance inspections. To maintain ESP membership, companies must report on their environmental initiatives every year and reapply for ESP membership every three years.

Currently, 48 Indiana businesses are ESP members. For details about the program, visit IDEM's website at
