Entry Description
Monday, State Representative Kathy Heuer (R-Columbia City) honored Fort Wayne Metals business owners, Scott and Melissa Glaze and Alan Tio, President of Whitley County Economic Development Corporation with the Distinguished Hoosier Awards at the annual EDC’s Outlook event in Columbia City.

“Scott and Melissa Glaze have been champions for entrepreneurs throughout our state,” said Rep. Heuer. “Through their keen understanding of the financial needs of small businesses and their dedication and hard work, Mr. and Mrs. Glaze have grown their businesses in both Allen and Whitley County, sharing their talents with both counties.”

Alan Tio has been with the Whitley County Economic Development Corp. for seven years now, and under his leadership, Whitley County has experienced business growth leading to over 660 new jobs for that  county in the past two years.

The Distinguished Hoosier Awards is one of the highest honors that Indiana citizens can receive. It is awarded by the State of Indiana, granted at the discretion of the Governor and given to Hoosiers who have brought honor, distinction and respect to the state. Through character and accomplishments Mr. and Mrs. Glaze alongside Mr. Tio have been able to find new ways to revitalize the State of Indiana while bringing economic growth.

Scott and Melissa Glaze are business owners who have expanded their family footprint into Whitley County with the purchase of the Fort Wayne Foundry building for the expansion of Fort Wayne Metals.  Additionally, after a successful experience with Melissa’s development company in opening an authentic Irish Pub on West Wayne Street in Fort Wayne, J.K. O’Donnell’s, they are now looking at refurbishing  a home built in 1890 for a reuse as a restaurant and apartments.

Alan Tio, President of the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation, looks at different ways to bring in businesses to Whitley County, focusing on economic growth, was instrumental in bringing Fort Wayne Metals to Columbia City.  Additionally, he has developed a multi-level training program for entrepreneurs throughout out county that includes business planning, an incubator of co-working spaces and a revolving loan program to support entrepreneurial start-ups.

“These three people have been able to contribute to our state on many levels and still find time to volunteer their services to a multitude of non-profit organizations. I am grateful for their service and work in Indiana and appreciate their time and talents,” said Rep. Heuer.
