End Date: 3/12/2014
Entry Description

Vigo County—This afternoon at 2:48, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 12 mile marker for a report of an ambulance rollover crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Sullivan County Indiana ambulance was westbound on I-70 near the 12mm, when the unit drifted off the south edge of the roadway. The driver failed to regain control of the 2000 Freightliner ambulance and the vehicle began to rotate clockwise in the median, eventually rolling over multiple times and coming rest on the driver’s side approximately 200 feet from where it left the roadway. The EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) on board were able to extricate themselves from the overturned ambulance. Their injuries appeared to be non-life threatening contusions, lacerations, and complaints of pain. They were both transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Trans Care Ambulance Service. There were no patients on board and the ambulance was returning from a medical run to Indianapolis.

The driver reported a strong gust of wind while passing a commercial vehicle as a contributing factor to the crash.

Traffic was slow in the area for approximately one hour for crash cleanup.

Driver: Jessica Boyle, age 25, of Sullivan, IN.

Passenger: Kindra West, age 27, of Jasonville, IN.

The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Jason Owen. Assisting were ISP Lieutenant Dan Jones, Sergeant Joe Watts, Trooper Tim Rader, Terre Haute Police Department, Riley Fire/Rescue, Honey Creek Fire/Rescue, and Trans Care Ambulance.
