[SUPREME] Online application now available to apply for Indiana Bar Exam
Start Date: 2/24/2014 All Day
End Date: 2/24/2014
Entry Description
The Indiana Supreme Court is pleased to announce the State Board of Law Examiners (BLE) now has an online application process through a BLE portal.  Previously, the application process included a series of forms which applicants needed to download from the website and send to the Board.  The online application is available for applicants interested in taking the July 2014 exam.

“We are excited to begin a new chapter at BLE that will make the process easier for those interested in taking the bar.  The new online application portal will also soon be of use to attorneys seeking admission on foreign license or business counsel and lawyers forming a PC, LLP or LLC for purposes of practicing law in Indiana,” said Bradley Skolnik, Executive Director of the Indiana State Board of Law Examiners.

The Board of Law Examiners is a Supreme Court agency and is responsible for the admission of attorneys, the certification of legal interns, and the formation and renewal of professional corporations, limited liability companies, and limited liability partnerships for the legal profession.  Starting in July 1931, the Supreme Court adopted rules regulating the admission to the practice of law in Indiana.  These laws require applicants to take an examination.  The bar exam is administered twice a year with about 850 students total taking the test.

The new electronic bar admission portal is part of a software package that digitizes and automates the entire bar admission process.  ILG Information Technologies provided the upgrade, which was paid for by bar admission fees, not state tax money.

The transition to the new site will include two phases with Bar exam and legal internships available online now.  Corporations, foreign license, and business counsel license are scheduled to be online in March.
