Entry Description
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Don Lehe (R-Brookston) and more than 55 other representatives offered House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 18 Monday recognizing the Indiana FFA Association for their important work in furthering the development of the agriculture industry as a kick-off to National FFA Week.

“The Indiana FFA Association is an integral part of the continued growth and success of Indiana’s agriculture industry,” said Rep. Lehe. “This resolution highlights many of the great contributions FFA makes to Hoosier agribusiness and the state officers who put countless hours into keeping it running smoothly. These students are our future, and I believe it will be a very bright one.”

Some key points of the resolution are below.

Whereas, The FFA is the student organization component of Indiana's total agricultural education program;

Whereas, As an intracurricular activity, FFA empowers students to apply the knowledge and competencies gained from classroom laboratory instruction and supervised agricultural experiences;

Whereas, The Indiana FFA and agricultural education provide a strong foundation for the youth of Indiana and the future of the food, fiber, and natural resource systems for Hoosiers statewide;

Indiana FFA state officers present to accept the resolution were President Allie Abney, Secretary Kayla Hoenert, Northern Region Vice-President Rebekah Frey, Southern Region Vice-President Ethan McNeely, Reporter Shelby Sigman and Sentinel Sarah Dirksen.

Future Farmers of America was founded in 1928 to bring students, teachers and the agribusiness industry together in support of agriculture education. Since then, millions of students have been a part of the organization, supporting their mission of “providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” It is currently the largest youth organization in the world with more than 575,000 national members.

Indiana’s National FFA Organization chapters contribute to many communities in Indiana. They raise more than $600,000 annually to support student leadership activities, career development events and scholarships.
