[ISP] Traffic Violation Leads to Wanted Felon
Start Date: 2/18/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 2/18/2014
Entry Description

Henry County – Early this afternoon around 12:30 p.m., a traffic stop for a traffic violation led to the discovery of a wanted felon. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Sergeant Todd Wallace was on I-70 west bound in western Henry County, working traffic, when he observed a white 2005 Freightliner Tractor Trailer following too closely around the 117 mile marker.

Wallace stopped the truck and had it pull off into the truck stop at the Knightstown exit. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver didn’t have a log book, and was also in possession of alcohol in the passenger compartment, both federal violations. Further investigation revealed the driver was wanted on a felony warrant out of Athens, Georgia for four counts of Attempted Murder.

The driver, Darryl M. Suggs, age 49 of St. Louis, Mo., was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Henry County Jail to await extradition. Wallace was assisted at the scene by the Shirley Marshall, Knightstown Police Department and Trooper Tyler Painter.

This traffic stop was for one of the leading cause of crashes, following too closely and serves as a reminder that there is no such thing as a “routine traffic stop. Indiana Law requires motorists to move over and or slow down when approaching an emergency vehicle on two or four lane roadways when they have emergency lights flashing. We never know what we may encounter on a traffic stop, so please, give us room to work!
