[ISP] Use Extreme Caution on Monday Morning Drive
Start Date: 1/26/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/26/2014
Entry Description

Lowell-Motorists need to leave early tomorrow, January 27, 2014, for their work commute. Hazardous road conditions on I-80/94 and I-65 that have occurred throughout this past weekend are not expected to change going into the work week.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Monday and a wind chill warning remains in effect from 3 a.m. Monday to 9 a.m., Wednesday, January 29th.

Blowing snow may quickly become worse this evening and into tomorrow. Additional light snowfall is possible.

Winds are expected to increase which will cause significant blowing and drifting snow that may lead to white out conditions. Open areas on the interstates and rural area roads may become dangerous. Ramps and bridges should be driven with extreme caution. You will need to ADJUST your speed for road conditions.

If you must travel tomorrow you need to give yourself EXTRA time to get to your destination. Ensure you have a full gas tank, blankets, food and water with you. Dress warmly, charge your cell phone and expect possible long delays.

Rethink your trip if possible; staying off the interstate entirely is the safest option. Use alternate routes. Remember to move over and slow down when you see emergency lights and give INDOT plow trucks room to work.

For up-to-date road and weather information, citizens are encouraged to tune to local television and/or radio stations. Another source of information is the National Weather Service; this link will take visitors directly to the current Indiana weather information. Citizens may also contact the Indiana Department of Transportation Road and Weather line at (800) 261-7623 or visit the Indiana Department of Transportation website at
