Entry Description

Henry County – On 4/15/13 around 4 p.m. Trooper Doug Snyder responded to a Henry County dispatch on a crash in the 5800 block of SR 38 in eastern Henry County. Snyder responded to find a small box truck off the north side of SR 38.

There were two motorists at the scene who had stopped to assist. Snyder could see that the driver of the truck, 68-year-old John D. Hale of Muncie, was not breathing and had no pulse. John Hale’s wife, who was in the truck with him, said her husband had suddenly lost consciousness before driving off the road. With the help of the good samaritans, Snyder lifted the driver out of the truck and placed him on the ground.

Snyder immediately began CPR. As Henry County EMS arrived one of the good samaritans took over compressions so Snyder could assist the crew. Mr. Hale was transported to Henry County Memorial Hospital where he was stabilized, then taken to I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He has been under their care during his recovery and will soon be released.

Tonight Trooper Snyder and John D. Hale were reunited in Hale’s room at Ball Hospital. Hale, with a huge smile, shook Snyder’s hand and thanked him for his quick actions that day, saying, “You surely saved my life.” He went on to say “I’m so thankful you were there that day, and I want people to know about the good job the men in blue do every day.” Hale said he hopes to be released tomorrow.

Trooper Doug Snyder is in his sixth year with the Indiana State Police. He is assigned to the Pendleton District and works in Henry and Wayne Counties.
