Entry Description

Clay County---At 11:00 on Friday evening, April 5, Indiana State Police Trooper Jonathan Cumbie was on routine patrol in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the 28 mile marker. During his patrol, he noticed a 2005 Dodge Durango travel off the roadway’s edge and then left of center. Trooper Cumbie stopped the vehicle and while conversing with the driver, noticed what appeared to be a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle’s interior. As Trooper Cumbie attempted to take the driver into custody, a struggle ensued. The suspect fled on foot into a wooded area. As assisting units from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrived to help with the search, the suspect covertly re-entered his vehicle and drove off. The suspect was pursued westbound for approximately two miles at 60-65 miles-per-hour by ISP and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office units. The suspect then voluntarily pulled over and was taken into custody without incident by Trooper Cumbie and Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Frazier.
