Hoosier farmers recognized for achievements

STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Jack Lutz (R-Anderson) congratulates the Reed family from Delaware County for receiving the Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award. The award was presented today by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Agriculture Director Gina Sheets at the Indiana Statehouse.

“I want to congratulate the Reed family for their dedication to agriculture in Indiana,” said Rep. Lutz. “They are an outstanding example of what makes up the cornerstone of our Hoosier economy, the agriculture industry.”

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes families with farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

The Reed Farm has been owned and operated by the Reed/Richmond family since 1855. Located in Daleville, Ind., the Reed family was recognized for their hard work and commitment to agriculture.

The program began in 1976 to acknowledge the contributions families have made to Indiana agriculture. More than 5,000 farms have been recognized since the program was established.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of the many outstanding Hoosier farmers across the state.

“The Hoosier spirit is defined by the hard work and hospitality of Indiana’s farmers,” said Rep. Lutz. “I wish the Reed Family another 150 years of plentiful harvests and prosperity as they continue to reinforce Hoosiers rich farming traditions.”
