[R65]Rep. Koch invites Beretta USA to locate in Indiana

Entry Description

STATEHOUSE — In the spirit of continued job growth, State Representative Eric Koch (R-Bedford) has reached out to firearm manufacturer Beretta USA, inviting them to relocate their facilities to south central Indiana. Beretta has considered relocating its gun manufacturing facility outside of Maryland due to unfriendly gun laws that have advanced in the Maryland General Assembly.

The proposed assault weapons ban that is gaining ground in the Maryland General Assembly would make weapons produced in the facility illegal to own in the state of Maryland. In the 1990s Beretta moved its warehouse operations to Virginia due to increase gun restrictions in Maryland and have since considered relocating altogether.

“Indiana has stood firm in its support of the Second Amendment,” said Rep. Koch. “Not only do we have reasonable gun laws, but in terms of best places to do business, we’ve been ranked 1st in the Midwest and 5th in the nation by two separate sources. Indiana is the crossroads of America, and we have a skilled workforce to meet the high quality standards Beretta would bring. Our state would serve as a great distribution center for Beretta’s products. Indiana is also home to many nationally-ranked facilities.”

The relocation of not only the manufacturing facilities but also the shipping facilities has potential to bring hundreds of new jobs to Hoosiers across the state. Indiana’s competitive tax and regulatory structures are very favorable to accepting new businesses transferring facilities to the state.
