Entry Description
Kendallville, IN-Two Kendallville men were arrested yesterday afternoon after they allegedly entered a local gas station and stole a can of Zippo lighter fluid which led troopers to their vehicle and precursors for the production of meth.
According to Trooper John Silver, yesterday at approximately 5:30 p.m. Daniel J. Campbell, 36 and Zachary M. Knight, 19 both from Kendallville, entered the Marathon gas station located at the intersection of Main and Diamond Streets in Kendallville. After a short time, Silver said that Campbell exited and got into a pickup truck. Moments later, Knight exited the Marathon and as he was about to get into the truck, the owner of the gas station exited hurriedly ordering Knight to stop. Knight then took off running and Campbell began to drive away, but was quickly stopped by Silver and Trooper Nicholas Hoffman.
Knight, who was pursued on foot by Master Trooper Andy Smith and Trooper Tim Myers was caught a short distance later. The owner identified both Knight and the can of lighter fluid that he was alleged to have stolen. A search of Campbell’s vehicle turned up lithium batteries, and a box of Sudafed pills on Campbell’s person. Those in conjunction with the lighter fluid, which is an organic solvent, led to the arrest and their incarceration in the Noble County Jail.
