[r33]Rep. Davis honors Auto Racing Champions with resolution at the Statehouse
Start Date: 3/8/2013Start Time: 2:30 PM
Entry Description
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Bill Davis (R-Portland) recognized the many contributions of Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Vance & Hines Motorsports to the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana today in House Concurrent Resolutions 20 and 21.

“The motorsports industry has helped to put Indiana front and center in the racing world,” said Rep. Davis. “Based on this fact that some of the world’s premier motorsports attractions are hosted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including the Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400 and Red Bull MotoGP, in addition to the US Nationals that are hosted at Lucas Oil Raceway, it is no wonder Indiana is considered the Racing Capital of the World.”

More than 1,600 motorsports companies are based in Indiana, including racing teams, manufacturers and service companies that represent every area of motorsports, including many of the nation’s top professional racing teams.  Indiana has a long heritage of racing enthusiasts and is known as the “Racing Capital of the World”.

The Indiana Motorsport Caucus, co-chaired by Rep. Davis, consists of legislators in the Indiana General Assembly that have interests in motorsports. Leadership and drivers from the racing teams met with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation earlier in the morning before proceeding to the Statehouse where they were recognized by the House of Representatives and then by the Indiana Senate. The members then attended a reception with Governor Mike Pence and Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann in the Governor’s office.

“As Hoosiers, we recognize the significant contributions that the motorsports industry provides for our state. It is Indiana’s goal to continue to develop strong, lasting relationships with the racing and business communities,” said Rep. Davis.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing was founded in 1990 by Chip Ganassi and has the longest running sponsorship in IndyCar history with Target Stores. Target Chip Ganassi Racing operates a high tech facility employing management engineers, technicians and highly skilled mechanics.

In 2012 the Target Chip Ganassi Racing won the Indianapolis 500 with driver Dario Franchitti crossing the finish line. Scott Dixon, another member of the Target Chip Ganassi team, finished the Indianapolis 500 in second place.  The wins marked the fourth win for the team with others occurring in 2000, 2008 and 2010.

Vance & Hines Motorsports, originally based in Brownsburg, is known as the most successful motorcycle drag racing team and is a leader in the manufacturing of aftermarket parts and accessories for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson.

Members of the Vance & Hines team are frequently in the winner’s circle, having won six of the last nine NHRA national championships. In addition, 15 of the last 16 NHRA races held in 2012 were victories for the team.
