[r68] Honor and Remember Flag adopted
Start Date: 2/18/2013 All Day
End Date: 2/18/2013
Entry Description

STATEHOUSE – On Friday, State Representative Jud McMillin (R-Brookville) co-authored a resolution establishing the Honor and Remember Flag as a symbol of military sacrifice in Indiana. The flag is currently being adopted by state legislatures across the nation recognizing the sacrifices made by those in our Armed Forces.

“I am eternally grateful for the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces,” said Rep. McMillin. “Our nation’s military is the strongest in the world because of the selfless service, devotion and personal courage that our troops have made, so I am deeply honored to co-author a resolution recognizing their sacrifices.”

The Honor and Remember Flag was nationally recognized with the adoption of House Resolution 1034 to 111th Congressional delegation. After the resolution passed, states became eligible to adopt the flag as a state-symbol for military sacrifice.

With the resolution’s unanimous passing in Indiana, the flag is to be flown over public buildings to honor those currently serving in the United States, overseas and those that paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom. After the resolution passed unanimously in Indiana, a copy was sent to the Congressional delegation.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to those who have paid the ultimate price, and it is our responsibility to never forget their heroic deeds,” said. Rep. McMillin.

Each symbol on the flag represents an aspect of military service or sacrifice. The red border symbolizes the blood spilled by the military to keep our nation free, and the three colors on the stars stand for the selfless service of our heroes. Signifying the spirit of departed, the flames symbolize in the memory of all who knew and cared for a fallen soldier.
