Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 27, 2013) — State Sen. Ron Grooms’ (R-Jeffersonville) bill to allow for the creation of a Clark County Regional Airport authority unanimously passed the Senate on Tuesday.
Senate Bill 535 would enable Clark County to establish a South Central Regional Airport Authority and outline how members of the authority would be appointed. It also would give local redevelopment commissions or military base reuse authorities the ability to provide revenue to the authority for economic development purposes.
“The Clark County airport is located in an increasingly strategic area to assist local employers and attract new business growth to our communities,” Grooms said. “Southern Indiana, in particular the River Ridge Commerce Center and the Port of Indiana in Jeffersonville, is growing and expanding at impressive rates. It’s only fitting that we continue to improve our airport so that it remains a vital component of our transportation network.”
SB 535 now heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
