Entry Description STATEHOUSE – Representative Kathy Heuer authored House Bill (HB) 1171, which expands the current Sales Tax exemption for certain tangible personal property purchased for research and development activities. The bill passed unanimously out of the House today.
“It is my hope that the tax exemptions provided by this bill will free up laboratory budgets to fund more medical research and development projects to better the health and quality of life for Hoosiers” said Rep. Heuer.
Under current statute, laboratory equipment, computers, computer software, telecommunications equipment and testing equipment are exempt from the sales tax. The bill expands that exemption to cover any other tangible personal property that is acquired by the purchaser for the purpose of research and development activities devoted directly to experimental laboratory research and development.
“Jobs are the main focus here and incentivizing innovation and investment into Indiana’s economy is critical for continued growth,” said Rep. Heuer. “Keeping the best interests of District 83 and all Indiana Hoosiers in mind, I’m will continue to work on legislation that benefits Hoosiers and our state’s economy.”
