Entry Description INDIANAPOLIS---AN AMENDMENT TO STANDARDIZE REQUIRMENTS FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES WAS REJECTED MONDAY, LARGELY ALONG PARTY LINES. THE CHANGES TO SENATE BILL (SB) 371, PROPOSED BY ASSISTANT DEMOCRATIC LEADER JEAN D. BREAUX (D-INDIANAPOLIS), WOULD HAVE SET OUT PROTOCOL FOR PATIENTS SEEKING ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION MEDICATION, SIMILAR TO REQUIREMENTS MANDATED TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS FOR WOMEN SEEKING PILL-INDUCED ABORTION MEDICATION. THE BILL REQUIRES WOMEN SEEKING SUCH MEDICATION TO UNDERGO A TRANSVAGINAL ULTRASOUND, AMONG OTHER STIPULATIONS AND BREAUX’S AMENDMENT WOULD HAVE CREATED SIMILAR PROCEDURES FOR MEN. BREAUX EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT FOCUSING SOLELY ON THE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH OF ONE GENDER was a misguided effort.
SEN.BREAUX: “The point of my amendment was to show if we are really concerned about women’s health, then let’s be concerned about the health of the male…”
