Indianapolis, IN- Late yesterday evening, February 23rd, at approximately 11:06 p.m., Corporal Wiley Mimms and Trooper Mike McCreary of the Indianapolis Post, were working a traffic detail on I-70 WB/I-65 NB. Corporal Mimms and Trooper McCreary were assisting traffic at the I-65 NB detour due to the overpass repair at Virginia Avenue.

Trooper McCreary observed a 2000 Ford Expedition traveling NB I-65 at an extremely high rate of speed and obtained a radar speed of 86 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The Expedition drove around the detour barricades, nearly striking Corporal Mimm’s police car, and continued WB on I-70.

The driver failed to stop for officers and exited I-70 at Harding Street. The vehicle continued SB on Harding and crashed into a bridge abutment at Kentucky Avenue and Belmont Street.

The driver, Jeremiah R. Casmire, 31, of Indianapolis was transported to Wishard Hospital where he underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers at the scene of the crash reported observing signs and symptoms of impairment in the driver and a blood draw was obtained.

Additional traffic related charges are also pending upon completion of the crash investigation.
