Entry Description
Hammond, Lake County-A semi driver lost control on the Indianapolis Boulevard ramp, this morning, causing it to partially roll-over losing a significant amount of trash it was hauling.
Senior Trooper Glen Fifield responded to a single vehicle crash, at approximately 10:51 a.m., this Thursday, February 21, 2013, morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Mack semi hauling trash, driven by Thomas Dejuan, 46 of Calumet Park, Illinois, was on the west bound I-80 to south bound Indianapolis Blvd ramp when he took the curve too fast. Dejuan stated that the semi “got away from him” and it struck the outer concrete retaining wall, partially rolling onto its passenger side. The trailer was hanging over the retaining wall causing a significant amount of the trash it was hauling to fall below into a grassy area near Indianapolis Blvd.
The semi and trailer, owned by Z Force Transportation out of Chicago Heights, Illinois, sustained major damage.
Dejuan was taken to Munster Community Hospital with back pain. He was cited for Speed Too Fast to Avoid a Collision.
The I-80 west bound to south bound Indianapolis Blvd. ramp is closed until the semi can be off-loaded and then up-righted for removal. Clean-up of the trash is also underway.
