Entry Description
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 19, 2013) — Legislation co-authored by State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel) to show gratitude to Purple Heart veterans passed the Senate by a unanimous vote.
Senate Bill 563 focused on several motor vehicle issues, including registration, abandoned vehicles, mobile homes and license plates. Delph’s bill – Senate Bill 356 – was added onto the legislation to permit owners of a Purple Heart license plate to park in a metered space without fee for parking or penalty for overtime parking.
“This is a small gesture to show appreciation for a great sacrifice,” Delph said. “The Purple Heart is one of the highest awards given to our veterans who were wounded while protecting our country. While exempting them from parking fees may not seem like much, it’s my hope it will show that Indiana is grateful for their service.”
The legislation now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration. Reps. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) and Steven Stemler (D-Jeffersonville) are its sponsors. |
