Construction to Begin on Clark Memorial Bridge
Painting and sidewalk repairs scheduled for the Indiana approach
Louisville, KY (January 10, 2013) – Motorists crossing the Ohio River on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge will need to allow some extra travel time in the coming weeks. Work is scheduled to begin the week of January 14th for painting and sidewalk repairs on the Indiana approach. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded a contract last fall for improvements to the Clark Memorial Bridge which carries US 31 across the Ohio River.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction 24 hours a day while crews paint the steel, replace handrails & sidewalks and repairing bridge expansion joints. The contractor is permitted two 30-day time periods for the lane closures, one for each side of the bridge. The first section of work is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 14.
Approximately 15,000 vehicles cross this bridge each day.
The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 25 MPH for the duration of the project. The project will be signed as a double fine work zone.
Hall Contracting of Louisville was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $1.07 million. Construction is scheduled for completion by April 15, 2013.
Actual starting date is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
