[SUPREME] Media Advisory: 2013 State of the Judiciary scheduled for January 23rd

Entry Description
Chief Justice of Indiana, Brent E. Dickson, will address a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly for the annual State of the Judiciary.  The formal update on the work of the judicial branch will be held January 23, 2013.

2:00 P.M. EST

The Chief Justice is required to provide Indiana lawmakers with an update on the “condition of the courts” according to Article 7, Section 3, of the Indiana Constitution.  The 2013 address will be Chief Justice Dickson’s first State of the Judiciary.

Trial and appellate court judges from across the state wear traditional black robes for the event and are escorted by members of the General Assembly to the Indiana House of Representatives for the joint session.  The address will be webcast live at courts.in.gov.  Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations (IPBS) will also air the address on radio and television.  Details on broadcast times and stations will be made available soon.    

To ensure a seat, media organizations should contact Kathryn Dolan, Supreme Court Public Information Officer, at kathryn.dolan@courts.in.gov.  Media not already credentialed as state house press will need to contact Tory Flynn, Communications Director, at 317-232-9887 or TFlynn@iga.in.gov. Advance copies of Chief Justice Dickson’s speech will be delivered to press in the south balcony of the House just prior to the address.
