[ISP] Troopers Patrolling “New” Public Road Results in Arrests
Start Date: 8/4/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 8/4/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

Jennings County: Country Squire Lakes, up until recently, was a private community that the police could not enforce traffic laws in. Seven miles of the main road became public and citizens of the community requested help of the Indiana State Police with occasional patrols. Recently the pleas for help from the state police resulted in arrests.

This morning at approximately 9:50 Trooper Randel Miller stopped the driver of a 2001 Ford SUV on Country Manor Blvd. for not wearing his seat belt and for having a boat sticking out the back by more than four feet without a red flag. According to Tpr. Miller, the driver, 48 year old Bernard E. Everhart of North Vernon, was acting very suspicious and started making exaggerated movements and appeared ready to attempt to flee when Tpr. Miller was able to take him into custody. Everhart was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. He is now facing two Class D Felony counts for possession of those illegal substances.

Later this afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m. Trooper Miller stopped a 2001 Jeep Cherokee for speeding on Country Manor Blvd. The driver, identified as 46 year old Richard L. Gonterman of North Vernon, was subsequently arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. Gonterman refused to submit to chemical testing. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and a blood sample was drawn and the results of the tests are pending and depending upon the outcome, could result in additional charges.

Jennings County Deputies Naylor, Mowery, and Ritchie assisted with the stops. Tpr. Miller commented, “Several citizens of the community drove by the scene and showed their approval for the police presence with giving ‘thumbs up,’ clapping, and shouting “Thank you.”
