End Date: 7/30/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

Vermillion County—This morning at 8:56, Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Trooper Brent Hoover and Vermillion County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Hennis spotted a green 1998 Ford Ranger southbound on State Road 63 near north Main Street in Clinton. The vehicle matched the description of a theft suspect broadcast by the Parke County Sheriff’s Office minutes earlier. As the officers approached the vehicle to investigate, the vehicle veered into the Town of Fairview and attempted to elude the officers. The vehicle then re-entered SR 63 and continued southbound with the officers in pursuit, all emergency lights and siren activated. The suspect turned north onto US 41 in Terre Haute and continued to Fort Harrison Road, then west on Lee Avenue. The Ford pickup struck a small fence post and a stump causing the vehicle to be disabled. The driver fled on foot and jumped into the nearby Wabash River. A perimeter was quickly established by ISP troopers, Vigo, Vermillion, and Parke County Sheriff’s deputies, and Terre Haute and Indiana State University Police officers. At approximately 10:30, the suspect was located by THPD K-9 officers and other police units, in tall grass on the west side of the Wabash River. Pursuit speeds reached 85 to 90 miles-per-hour. Traffic was light to moderate in the area.

Arrested: Ryan R. Steadman, age 29, of Terre Haute, IN.

Steadman is facing preliminary charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Reckless Driving in Vermillion County and other criminal charges in Parke County.

Contact the Parke County Sheriff’s Office for details of their investigation and potential charges.

Questions concerning the ISP investigation, contact ISP Sergeant Joe Watts.
