[ISP] Drunk Driver Arrested on Multiple Charges in Vigo County

Entry Description

Vigo County—Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Finney of the Putnamville District has concluded a nearly 48-hour investigation into allegations a Terre Haute man committed criminal acts resulting in his arrest and injuries to both himself and a Vigo County Vigo County Sheriff’s deputy.

Arrested: Keenan James Harris, age 36, of Terre Haute, IN.
Jailed at the Vigo County Security Center, Bond $25,000, no 10%.

Charges: Resisting Law Enforcement, D felony; Resisting Law Enforcement, A misdemeanor;
Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, A misdemeanor; Operating a Vehicle
with a ACE of .15 or more, A misdemeanor; Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a
Person, D felony; and Operating a Vehicle with ACE of .15 or More, D felony. ACE is
Alcohol Content Equivalent.

On Tuesday, May 21st around 9:45p.m., off-duty Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Hall was southbound on Lafayette Avenue near Haythorne Avenue in his fully marked patrol car. A northbound blue, 1990 GMC pickup crossed the center line and nearly struck Deputy Hall’s vehicle. Deputy Hall turned around and stopped the pickup in the parking area of a local restaurant where the driver fled eastbound on foot. Deputy Hall identified himself as a sheriff’s deputy and told the driver to stop. The driver then turned around and charged Deputy Hall. At the conclusion of the altercation, Harris received a head injury and was transported to Methodist Hospital in satisfactory condition. Deputy Hall received a minor hand injury and was treated at a local Terre Haute hospital. Keenan Harris alcohol level was .29%.

Keenan Harris was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis this afternoon and immediately arrested by Indiana State Police troopers on a Vigo County Superior Court 5 warrant. Troopers then incarcerated Harris in the Vigo County Jail.

Assisting were ISP troopers David Petrowski and Brandon Mullen, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office.
