STATE FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE ASSISTS WITH ELWOOD FACTORY FIRE INVESTIGATION

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local authorities in the investigation of a vacant factory fire in Elwood on November 30.

The fire at 450 N 9th Street destroyed a factory that had been vacant for more than seven years. The Elwood Fire Department, along with volunteer fire departments from surrounding communities helped put out the fire. The Madison County EMA Hazardous Materials team took air quality samples during the incident and determined the air was safe.

Officers with the Elwood Police Department interviewed four juveniles seen leaving the building and arrested them for intentionally starting the fire.

Fire investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting at the request of the Elwood Fire Department and the Elwood Police Department.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is a division of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
